Principal’s Message

 Prince of Peace

“But don’t be afraid.”
Matthew 24.6

The Senior Class is reading about the end times and heaven as we wrap up Devotions in this last term.

We are starting with Matthew chapter 24 where Jesus tells his disciples on what to expect in the future.

It is grim reading, however, right in the middle of this passage Jesus reassures his followers to not be afraid.

We will all face challenges that will seem overwhelming but, be assured, a loving God is there right in the middle of our trials whispering – ‘don’t be afraid.’

As we draw close to the Christmas season where we remember the birth of the baby Jesus, we can remember also that he is our Prince of Peace in our times of trouble.

Whole School

Welcome to Term 4

It is a belated welcome to the term this time. We have been very busy with Professional Development, School Camps and Sports excursions in the last week or two.

Please be sure you check the calendar for all known events for the term. Not all calendar items will be referred to in this eNews.

Working Bee

Following our busy Benalla Show weekend, the school will be conducting its second Working Bee for the year.

This will be held on Saturday, October 28th, commencing at 8:30 am.

A list of tasks will be displayed around the school, allowing you to know what tools will need to be brought. There will be jobs for all of us, including any children who may wish to join in the fun.

Gardening gloves, cleaning cloths, whipper-snippers and shovels will all be needed, but most of all we need willing hands and merry hearts.

We will finish at midday. Come for the morning, for just an hour or two, for a particular task, or for good company as we work side by side. We appreciate what this means for our children, and the school community!

Further details available at the school office.

The Laugh That Shook The World will sound a Kookaburra call across sixteen North East Victorian towns in November 2017, following a series of interactive children's book workshops in Schools and Shires that ran earlier this year.

Author Craig Dent has previously been funded by the Literature Board of the Australia Council for the Arts and was a Writer-in-Residence at Western Plains Zoo, and is currently engaged by Macquarie Primary for a 50th anniversary book.

The new book includes creative work by students in each town, who wrote a ‘secret stanza’ for the book in groups, expressing empathy and connection with their natural world, towns and landscapes, most hilarious;

“In designing workshops for schools, it occurred to me that it would be a cool idea to incorporate ideas by students and give them an opportunity to publish. There's an innovative way we have designed the book to include their work.”

The book is designed by Haylee Codina, a close friend of Craig's, and along with drawings by Lauren Habarow and Bethany Linquist, North East students have created drawings as their own interpretations of the story.

Craig had the idea for 'The Laugh That Shook The World' in 2016 whilst he was commissioned by North East Catchment Management Authority to write a book with the people of Benambra, entitled 'Released From The Wild';

“Driving to Benambra from Mitta, we stopped at Lightning Creek, where two kookaburras were pulling worms from the ground, so it gave me an idea. I grew up with Ken Maynard's Ettamogah Pub and loved his funny drawings of animals.”

The book is launched 11am 4th November, Dymocks Book Store Albury by close friend, Andrew Perrin, followed by a tour to schools and libraries 6 -24 November. The 36pg book is $20 per copy and can be ordered via [email protected]

Well done to the winning team, Arabella Beaton, Olivia Ham, Kyle Pearce and Sebastian Van de Paverd, from ACC Hume who will have their stanza published in the book.

The Laugh that Shook the World Book Orders

Parents and students can preorder their personal copies for $20 ready for signing when Craig visits our school on Friday, 10 November at 3.00pm. Preorders should be received by Wednesday, 8 November.

Year 1 & 2 Class

Welcome back to Term 4! I hope you enjoyed a restful and safe break! The children have settled well into this term and have been enjoying the warmer weather.

This week, the students have continued to settle back into the routine of reading and spelling every morning. This is a very important part of our school program and your child’s education. Please ensure that you child continues to read a levelled text (as opposed to a picture book) to you every night and that you write it in their yellow reading book. The students also have a subscription to Reading Eggs which you are welcome to access at home if you wish. Happy reading!

3 Year Old Prekinder Class to Avoid Nuts

Due to the recent enrolment of a student with a nut allergy, we request 3 Year Old Prekinder parents and students avoid nut products in their snacks.

4 Year Old Kinder Class

Welcome back to term 4, our final term together. We hope you had an enjoyable and restful holidays. Term 4 is going to be a very busy term. We have already had Thingle Toodle visit and had our last session of Smiles For Miles (Clean Well). We will also be continuing our trips to Cooinda. We have a road safety day planned on Tuesday and we ask the children to bring their bike/scooter/trike and helmet to kinder. We will also be going on a road safety walk. Please keep your eye out for notices and read your enews for more information.

One very exciting event that will be coming up in November is “transition”. The children will begin their transition to school by going and visiting the prep grade. They will then extend their visits to include recess/snack and then the final week they will spend lunch over in the school. For children who are not attending ACC you will be spending this time in kinder.

Our Thingle Toodle visit was very exciting. We learnt how to cross the road safely. These are some of the things we learnt, “Stop, Look, Listen and Think” before you cross the road. Always hold a grown ups hand to cross the road. Remember to also hold a grown ups hand in the car park. We also learnt to wear our seatbelt at all times in the back seat of the car. Please come in to kinder and have a read of our Thingle Toodle book that we made.

Just a forward reminder that Pre-Kinder’s last day will  be December 8th, we will celebrate the  year with a little party, which of course you are invited to! Details about the day will come to your house a little later.
